Transy in the Community

Transylvania offers numerous programs and events that reach beyond campus to enhance the cultural and academic life of the Lexington community and the surrounding area. Here are some examples:

Summer Camps

Middle school and high school students can have fun while enhancing their academic and computer skills at our academic and computer camps. Transy also offers a variety of sports camps and swim lessons.

Governor’s School for the Arts

Transylvania hosts this annual three-week, highly competitive program that immerses 230 Kentucky high school students in eight artistic disciplines.

Morlan Gallery

This on-campus gallery hosts a variety of exhibitions each year, including student and faculty art and works drawn from private and public collections. The gallery is a stop in the popular Lexington Gallery Hop.

Transylvania Theater

Several productions are mounted each academic year in the new, technically-advanced Little Theater.

Kenan Lecture Series

The William R. Kenan Jr. Lecture Series brings respected experts and well-known speakers to Transylvania’s campus. It is funded by a grant from the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust.

Speakers in the series have included Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, authors Kurt Vonnegut and Joyce Carol Oates, historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Shelby Foote, arts advocate Beverly Sills, and former U.S. trade ambassador Charlene Barshefsky.

May Fest

Transylvania hosts events during this art fair, which is held each year in neighboring Gratz Park. The weekend features juried arts and crafts, ethnic foods, music, and children's activities.

Patriotic Concert

Bring a blanket and a picnic for this performance by the Lexington Philharmonic and the Lexington Singers on the steps of Old Morrison on July 3.
