Transylvania’s Academic Computing department provides campus-wide computer, printer, and network support. Students are given ample access to computers and network printers both in the computer labs and in the classroom. Over 200 computers are available for students; many are available 24 hours a day. In addition to supporting hardware, Academic Computing maintains Transylvania’s network, monitors anti-virus scanning at the gateway and desktop, monitors network intrusions, provides access to academic programs such as Microsoft Office, Maple, SPSS, and others, and maintains Transylvania’s Internet presence and e-mail distribution.
Students living in the dorms have the option of connecting their personal computers to Transylvania’s Ethernet network. This service provides students unlimited access to the Internet and e-mail. Academic Computing installs and troubleshoots network connections for students free of charge. Anti-virus software is also distributed to students as a free download from Transylvania's Intranet support pages.
