Physical Education (Teaching)

As a society focuses more on health and wellness, the importance of physical education becomes more apparent. At Transylvania, physical education courses teach you to look beyond the sports aspect of fitness and recreation. As a teaching physical education major, you will learn about physical education's role in the health and well-being of society, explore the effects of physical activity on the body and mind, and discover the difference physical fitness makes in the development of children.

The teaching physical education curriculum will teach you the history, rules, and regulations of particular sports as well as how to teach others to play them. Through special projects with local organizations and student teaching, you will have the opportunity to practice your teaching skills.

Transylvania's activity courses and intramural and varsity sports programs will give you the chance to participate in some of the athletics activities you learn about. There are a variety of activity courses offered, including horsemanship, ice skating, aerobics, and lifeguarding, as well as more traditional forms of physical education. Men and women may also participate in varsity athletics. Transylvania is a member of the NCAA Division III for varsity athletic competition.
